Raw talent

If you guys had seen The Notebook starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling before, then you should remember this scene... I thought Rachel was convincing in this audition...

"What easy way out! There is no easy way out.. no matter what I do somebody gets hurt."

I like that part. God I really love The Notebook.. I really do..

Inception "Dream is a dangerous business"

oh boy this might be a long one guys...

So I watched Inception last night with Mein and Acap... and it was totally AWSM! mind blowing.. mind boggling..

Of all the movie I had watched with the theme dream or memory.. this has yet to be the most exiting.. If we're talking about story-wise.. it's superb... most of the time I was watching.. It made me think.. I seriously love movies that will lead me to think... There were never a slow moment in the plot.. everything just run smooth... the last 1 hour was very chaotic and full of suspense.. but you will never get too bored of lost in the movie.. some movies try to create so much suspense until you get lost.. but no.. Inception was great.. Christopher Nolan to me is an amazing director... after Dark Knight and The Prestige.. Inception really set his bar high in the sky... The way he translate this idea onto the big screen in pure genius! Another thing about this film is that since the theme is "dream", there's no limitation and no logical argument is valid.. all the rules and prohibition are not based on stupid excuses but very reasonable and beliavable.. After the movie.. Acap and I was like thinking how the hell the screenwriting was made.. given that we once took a screenwriting class and I have to tell you.. I'm already spooked with the idea of coming with a good storyline..

Besides that... Leonardo DiCaprio never seems to let me down... Mein and I were on the same page.. that he was born to act... He really had me at the part where his wife killed herself *oops spoiler!*.. his performance was convincing.. as always... But this is just not about Mr DiCaprio.. the line of cast was simply the best that the industry could offer.. Joseph Gordon-Levitt from 500 Days of Summer.. Ellen Page from Juno, Ken Watanabe from The Last Samurai along side Tom Hardy, Tom Berlenger, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine.. Things can't get any better than this... kudos to the great line of cast.

VFX-wise? top notch I have to say.. I know I'm still learning.. but damn all the scene was cool.. movies like this really define the era of HD and blu ray... of all the vfx loaded scene.. I have to say the part that I like the most is when Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was fighting the sub-consciences in the hotel hallway that is constantly turning upside down due to the van which was rolling towars the river bank on the 1st level dream.. hahaha.. confuse much?

I told you this was gonna be a long one.. I urge you guys to see the movie!!! I'm going for my 2nd encounter with Inception this week again.. I hope so...

P.S: while you were reading this post.. are you aware that you are actually in a dream..  don't believe me? Do you remember how you got here? hahahaha... after you've seen the movie, then you shall understand what the hell am I talking about.. *laughs*

To infinity and beyond

Trully this time.. Disney Pixar really hits me hard... Toy Story 3 is a wonderful movie... Now I'm not gonna tell you guys about how the story begins and ends.. That would really ruin it for you guys aint it.. hehe.. I'm merely giving my thoughts that I just have to share them with you guys...

Toy story 3 = Adventure + Friendship. That's what the animated feature is all about to me. Well the whole Toy Story Trilogy is based on this mixture of themes. There was never a dull moment in the movie. Awesome plot building made me very eager to know what's gonna happen next.

Humour always play a big role in cartoons. I guess the humour parts were planted neatly for the entire movie. Not to much.. nothing that cheesy... not that kiddish nor maturely... heck I was laughing quite loud in the cinema.. hahaa... basically slapstick comedy at its best.

I heard from a reliable source *laughs* that some people said Toy Story 3 will somewhat be boring because of the same old characters from the previous two movies. Well you might be surprised when you go watch it yourself.. and so what if the characters are all from the previous two movies.. the creators have made all the characters very good with their lovable personality and charming characteristic, I wouldn't replaced them for any other toys.. You could also be very surprised with just how many characters are from the previous movies.. Wheezy the penguin, Bo Peep (Woody's gal) and RC (remote controlled racing car) are not in this movie.. oooppss~ spoiler.. hahahaa.. but I'm not gonna tell the new toys lineup.. hehee..

Toy Story 3 teaches me that friendship is very valuable.. the importance of being there for someone you dear most.. and the most important lesson of all is that you must always appreciate your toys!! that's right.. your toys.. you might not know how much your toys will go the extra mile for you.. hahaha...

Enough of me talking gibberish... go and watch Toy Story 3 and you might be my gibberish are true.. *giggles*

Review : Lu Pikirlah Sendiri de Movie

I'm mad... no! I'm way more than mad... I'm furious as hell right now.. why? it's because of the new movie Lu Pikirlah Sendiri de Movie. There's so many things I wanna talk about but I'll try not to bore you guys to hell just like what I endured when watching this 'oh-so-shamed-that-I-hate-to-say-the-title' movie.

Ok, just a quick brief synopsis just to make you guys clear of what I'm gonna bash out later.

"Nabil (Nabil Raja Lawak 2), an SPM qualifier, is a hard working delivery boy. During the weekends, he works at a motorcycle workshop by day and sells 'kuay teow' at night to help his friend. Natasha (Puteri Sarah Liyana) is a daughter of a multi-millionaire, pursuing her tertiary education at a local University. By common stereotype, it is impossible for these two people to fall in love. However, it seems that fate has its own plans."
taken from cinema.com.my

What really caughy my attention is the movie posters. To me, it's decent, simple and sweet and not like many malaysian movie posters where they deliberately stamp all the actors/actresses that is in movie into that not so big space plus the boring typography even my sister can design even better. wait a sec, let's focus here...

Aminah Rhapor is the woman to blame for my furiosity. I know this is here debut directing a film but god! This has to be the worse movie I've seen during my 20 years of my life. Heck, she made Razak Moheideen's movie seem way better and I don't really like his movie. So you guys kinda get the picture of why her movie sucks.

First and foremost, what the hell is up with the storyline. If you ask me, there's no storyline at all. the term storyline means that there is a 'line' that the story goes from point A to point D for example. Along the way, there's B which is the build up and C which is the climax. What Aminah Rhapor did was very unclear from the start. Jumping from B to A then goes back D but there is never a C. Yup, I didn't found any climax there.

Besides that, Aminah Rhapor fails as a director obviously. I said that because the actors/actresses fail to bring their character to life. I know that they're not all great actors/actresses, but there where good directors come in. They DIRECT them to do what their supposed to do. During the whole movie, I can see Sarah Liyana fails to execute an angry guise and constantly has a 'this-is-so-funny-but-I-can't-laugh' facial expression. I mean come on man, how unprofessional can you be. This shows that Aminah Rhapor doesn't do enough shots (good ones at least) to even call it a great take. Aminah Rhapor, you're a lazy director who doesn't even know what you want from your actors/actresses. In addition, some scenes are just not interelated to the last or the next shot or simply illogical to begin with. Furthermore, the movie tries to tell every character's story until the audience got mislead.

I hate to say this but the script is not good at all. It doesn't seem natural and I noticed that when 2 characters are talking, one will always wait until the other finished talking and after about 2-3 second, then he/she start talking. Once again, bad acting and seriously bad directing. Don't they rehearse first before shooting to see how the flow of the conversation works out or not? I also hate the many scenes of Nabil arguing with Puteri Sarah. They keep repeating the same ol' lines over and over again.

Next what I wanna talk about is Meet Uncle Hussein (MUH). Yep that indie band. They're in the movie too playing and singing their song in numerous scene just to add up the comedy... I guess... when I look back, it seems that the movie promotes MUH more rather that to present the main idea of the movie which is the story of Nabil's life. No offense to MUH though..

Last but not least, the cameos. Urrrgghh~ too many cameos.. to me, some of the cameos gave no input to the movie at all. I guess Aminah Rhapor want some hype so that when people see names like Vanida Imran, Amy Search, Fahrin, Zizan Raja Lawak and many more.. people might go and watch it at the cinema. These are all cheap gimmick and I feel sorry for Vanida Imran and Ummi of Nur Kasih who are 2 very talented actresses but been given the roles of mediocres who contributed very little. Nabil is a very funny guys but the movie fails to bring his charm on the screen which is a great lost. Going back to the movie poster, Nabil and Mila af5 are suppose to be the main characters in the movie. Newsflash! Mila was in the movie for about 2-3 scenes only thus making the movie poster very misleading.

To wrap up, I'd say this has to be the worse movie ever in my life. I say this because I know, even student like me and and my classmates can make a better movie than Aminah Rhapor. I don't know what's going on in Aminah Rhapor's head when she saw the result of her direction.. What happenned to the art director? There's no art at all in the cinematography.. I would really like to know what Afdlin Shauki's thoughts about this film...

some of my materials were from cinema.com.my

Well, I know I'm harsh and most of you guys might say "does he know what he's talking about" or "you only know how to critisize people's work." Well, what I say are based on the knowledge I learned in film studies and screenwriting classes that I took..

I'm not alone in this matter, I went to see that movie with my trusted friends, Haziq and Remy and the 3 of us are on the same page... can't go wrong there... so enjoy the movie, don't enjoy the movie.. up 2 u.. I know I hated it.. that's it for me now... have a great midterm break MMU people~

100th Post and Paranormal Activity

WOW! this is my 100th post... so much things I've been blabbering about.. yet so little...

I just finished watching Paranormal Activity... *screams* hahah.. ok so I didn't scream wathing the movie.. but it's still a good horror movie... I guess the fact that they did it like the Blair Witch Project... hand held camera recording the whole thing goin on...

But some of the shot was not that natural in terms of dialogue... I mean there's like a cut when the camera is in transition... never the less, I LOVE the movie.. haha.. it's just so thrilling to see the blanket moves on it's own... foot prints on the floor even there's no foot... shadows on the door.. feet being dragged out of the bed... OK! I've given out too much! go see it for yourself! From the words of Stephen King, the KING of horror novel who tortured my childhood years with the novel and film "IT".... he said "Horror is entertainment" right on Mr Stephen King....

I wanna see all the five endings of Paranormal Activity!!! come on!!!!

for more information go to ParanormalActivity now!

owh... my name is on the end credit!! yeay.. hahaha... I know it's so mediocre of me.. but it's still my name.. hehe.. there's also another kamil.. I think he's polish... I think he's a HE.. hahaha

Thoughts on Papadom

I know most of you guys already watched Papadom... so I can't say that this is a review.. hehe.. so basically it's just my view *gigles* (god that was lame)

Afdlin shauki has once again delighted my life with his movie, Papadom. there's a couple of things I wanna point out after watching this wonderful movie.

Ok here it is... the story is decent. I mean there is a lot of movie especially hollywood's blockbuster that tells the story of a parent that can't let go of his/her child. So what makes this malaysian papadom different from the hollywood cusine? that one different is AFDLIN SHAUKI. A lil bit of his touch and *PUFF* the film is superb. Afdlin has his way of telling the story. For instance... the opening of the movie which was also some sort of narration is the boria performance (Penang culture). Witty one liners a slapstick jokes are always the core of Afdlin's movie but this time he added a dash of sensitivity with the relationship between Dom and his daughter. and owh, I like the relationship between Dom and his wife even when she's dead... that's hillarous and original at the same time for me...

The cast line-ups are the very best at what they are doing. Liyana Jasmay is this amazing talented petite girl who really did her homework. The father-daugher chemistry between Afdlin and her is great. they really did look like father and daughter to me with their antics and personality. Farid Kamil and Scha Alyahya were both very good. they really got out of their comfort zone in order to become their characters which make me realize that it's just so hard to do that. Que Haidar was charming in his own way. all in all... this cast really did a good job in making this movie more memorable.

I hope I can make movies like Afdlin... u inspire me man!

Gamer review

Before we start anything... I would like to wish a selamat hari raya to all u guys! yesterday just got back from Penang... after dinner we went to see Gamer... well.. I like to write a long review but I guess no one's gonna wanna read um... XD so I'll just give out my opinion through point form aite...

- the storyline was quite good but lacks in plot building... I mean... it's just simple and cliche...

- editing was nice but they over abuse the venetian blind effect.. they over did it until I got bored watching the game scenes....

- the transition from one shot to another is super fast until I got dizzy... my eyes didn't have the time to rest... plus I didn't wear my specs and watching stuff blown away to pieces just make it worst...

- all in all.. I'd give a 2.5 out of 5... well... it's just my humble opinion and u guys are entitle to give yours as well.. enjoy!

P.S : I'll blog about my raya celebration in the near future...

Drag me out of the Cinema.. bluergh

I thought I wanna start the new sem with a big bang.. so thought why not by watching Drag Me to Hell.. Ajwad and I were so exicted, then I talk mawi out to see that movie even though he doens't fancy horror flicks.. hehehe.. out of nowhere, Alia joined us even though she already seen the movie. she said there's a part she missed because she went to the toilet... nice excuse.. haha...

To tell you guys the truth.. it wasn't that good... T__T

I mean, some scene seems awkward and funny... I don't know whether to laugh or to scream.. there's a few frieght once in awhile but that's it... the movie emphasize on the sound effects.. ever heard of the term "I'm hearing things..".. well this movie really stands out in that direction.

There wasn't any gory scenes which I really love, instead there's this old granny which was so disgusting with her rotten prosthetic teeth, tons of green-yellowish slimy phlegm, spitting out maggots and all that is revolting to the eyes..bluergh!!! ( the sound she makes when she vomits).. XP

A very cheesy 80's horror if you ask me.. with classic cheesy dialogue. It doesn't seem natural to me.. some of the visual effects are kinda decent.. but the mechanical goat (I think) was too much for me.. come on.. it was so fake.. it scared the hell out of me... ya right! after awhile.. I was like "oh please drag me out of the cinema...".. XD

Well.. at least we had a few laughs and.. and there's this one scene where I jumped from my seat.. hahah.. Like I said.. there's not much of a horror except freight for awhile..

PS: looking forward to Transformer 2

Run for your life!!!! it's Monster VS Aliens...

Exams are over, the holiday starts off.. and so does movie nights!

so what can be more productive than watching a good movie during the holiday?

before we went back to our hometown... we went to Alamanda with Night at the Museum 2 in our mind...

much to our dismay, we were too late and the movie was fully book that very night... so we went on to our back up plan which in monsters vs aliens(MOV)... straight away I called Mein who was very to keen to watch it... and because of her, I have to go to her house and pick her up... pfft...

dont worry... it wasn't a problem mein...

anyways.. getting back on the movie

MOV was a blast... Dreamworks never fails too impress me since the Shrek trilogy..

I know this posting this will be pointless... but I wanna say that the voice over actors/actress really get into the characters especially Seth Rogen who played the oh so innocent BOB...

The heroine, Susan's direction was a bit blurry at the start.. maybe because the film didn't expose her enough about who she really is and how she perceives the world... but the texture of her skin is almost as a real human being... I felt like watching a real person...

just for the records... I watched MOV 3 times at the movies already and I ain't getting tired of watching.... heheh

Looking forward to my 2nd year in Film and Animation... life is hard as usual... got some issues I have to deal with.. just as long as I have my dudes... I'll manage...
