Kau Ade?

eBee, the MMU mascot dance to Oppa Gangnam Style during my convocation. Kau ade? haaaa... It's lovely to know that the person who animated eBee is a friend of mine who was also graduating with me as well.

Anyway.. maybe I'll post some of my convocation pictures.. just for sharing.. maybe I won't. Don't hold your breath aite.

Faceless Emotion

I have to say.. of all the good thing this short animation can offer me.. I really love the rendering.. the wood-like shading and harsh lighting.. it gave me the whole miniature look... In addition.. I love the pencil like strokes on the characters.. kudos to the art direction!

Another unmistakably coincidence that cannot be unseen! The core storyline is exactly the same as another short animation that I stumble upon quite sometime ago..

But this one got this dreamy cum imaginative kinda groove goin on.. again, kudos to the art direction with the rendering.. 

Dubstep Fingers

A lot of my friends have been sharing this video on Facebook.. why not share it on my blog right...

This is a promo video for the Samsung Galaxy Sii.. specifically in France... When I first saw this video.. I was thinking "hey, this is a cool video of a guy pop and locking his fingers to the dubstep music" which was already cool... but later came the motion graphics... damn brah! MIND BLOWING! The music + the choreography + motion graphics = A pretty rad promo video... and it doesn't even show the features of the phone... that's what makes it so good... 

Rio: life's a carnival.

So I went to see Rio at the cinema with Ajinda.. so what.. so what?? it's frigging awesome that's what... So here's my review on Rio..

I'll try not to touch more on the technical side of it... lets start off with the storyline. For me, I guess the main theme would be freedom. Simple as that.. the plot is not mind blowing; get caught - meet strangers - goes on great adventures - beat the bad guys.. don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to spoil the synopsis, but that's basically the summarization of the plot in the movie...

I've always telling saying that the story is very important.. but Rio came up with a pretty normal-nothing-out-of-the-universe kinda story but it's still pretty good.. I guess I liked the script enough to make me forget about the storyline that much... Have you guys seen the animated feature Bolt? Yes, about the reality TV dog on a mission to find his master.. along the way, he befriends a cat and a hamster and went on a journey across America to find his  masters... exactly like Rio.. with a couple of exceptions and originality... There's one chasing scene in the film that reminds me of a shortfilm I saw about 2 years ago..

Besides the script, the amazing voice actors really did an amazing job giving life to their respected characters.. Jessie Eisenberg as I quote from my twitter feed, "Would make a great talking macaw." His character, Blu is perfect for him just like Jack Black as Po in Kungfu Panda. Anne Hathaway's voice is always nice to my ears I can never have enough of George Lopez's smart talk.. even as a family-guy puffin *laughs*

Some of the characters reminded me of Angry Birds...

Will.i.Am as Pedro and Jamie Foxx as Nico reminded me of 

Angry Birds!

Another plus point for Rio is the colour. Although the colour scheme to almost every scene is very colourful.. it's pleasing to the eyes.. usually when there is so many colours the eyes tend to get hurt and you can't seem to 

tell where's the focus point in that scene.. but in Rio.. every colours compliment each other to create this harmonious balance... 

Last but not least, the music in the movie suits the carnival-ness *if that's a plausible notion* life that the movie tries to portray.I'm lost for words why I adore Rio so much.. Final words for Rio; Charming and colouful. Well I guess that's my say on Rio.. do watch it with your family and friends and enjoy the beautiful and colouful life of Brazil while you're at it. Once Upon a Time...

I have to say guys, Les Copaque is setting the animation bar pretty high in Malaysia right now... What I really love are the textures in this story... I hope the storyline is good enough, so that not only kids can enjoy it, but young adult like me as well..

And so my 2nd year as a university student ends yesterday.. hopefully.. I send my DVD submission to my lecturer's room and everything seems at peace.. I can finally breathe for a moment.. sure I have 2 papers this coming week but we're FCMers don't really care much about exam... it's the final project submissions that's keeping us worry the whole semester.. that's OUR papers..

sometimes it can be somewhat frustrating when people don't actually understand what we do. Just the other day I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine. He said "I don't really know how to explain to people when they asked me what I do. I told them I'm doing VFX and they were like "what?" So I just told them when people can't really make real explosion in the movie.. that's where I come in with my computer. And they were like "oooo". " hahah.. I just laugh...

so yeah guys... those who don't really know what FCMers or creative multimedia course students do or learn.. try listening to this song aite...

P.S. one more thing, we're always GETTIN MONEY WITH A MOUSE AND A WACOM PEN! *laughs*

It's tough making friends when you're an OXYGEN

Christopher Hendryx Produced this bubbly animation as his thesis for the Department of Computer Animation at the Ringling College of Art and Design. What I like about this animation is the simplicity of it. I like how he created the story using the elements from the periodic table as characters. Genius! All the characters are actually attending an element-ary school.. hahaha

I remember singing this song in my room with Mawi every night...  I think this video is cool! Not that simple editing but seems to look very easy... cool song... and I seriously like how they sometimes used different words to display another different word with a different meaning.. but somehow because we know how it sounds.. we know exactly that different word intended in that particular context.. am I even making sense here... hahaha... of course I am.. it's call a a homonym or homophones in plural... look it up.. heheh... I know am a sucker for grammar and vocab but provenly make stupid simple grammatical mistakes... darn it...

"Curious Displays functions simultaneously as a form of design research and as a proposal for a new product, a future display technology.

The project explores our relationship with devices and technology by examining the multi-dimensionality of communication and the complexity of social behavior and interaction. In its essence, the project functions as a piece of design fiction, considering the fluctuating nature of our present engagement with media technology and providing futurist imaginings of other ways of being.

Curious Displays is a product proposal for a new platform for display technology. Instead of a fixed form factor screen, the display surface is instead broken up into hundreds of ½ inch display blocks. Each block operates independently as a self-contained unit, and has full mobility, allowing movement across any physical surface. The blocks operate independently of one another, but are aware of the position and role relative to the rest of the system. With this awareness, the blocks are able to coordinate with the other blocks to reconfigure their positioning to form larger display surfaces and forms depending on purpose and function. In this way, the blocks become a physical embodiment of digital media, and act as a vehicle for the physical manifestation of what typically exists only in the virtual space of the screen."

It's an interactive movie by Julien Vallée and Nico las Burrows. Both of them are designers from Montréal.

What's it about? 

"It's a sort of interactive piece that shows a really classic and everyday life working space with all your tool that surround you while you're working, or concentrated on something. These objects are seemingly insignificant, taking from one place to the other, or left on the table for weeks without paying attention to them. We ignore of forget them, using things only when needed, and making sure they don't interfere or inhabit our space.

But we are questioning what would happen if they were not so stable? What if they could swivel and bounce, or even fly. And what if they can all do this at the same time? We let the opportunity to people to interact with these inanimate objects that turns into life when a key, related to each of them, is pressed down. They will get to life as long as the key is activated, and will interweave without interfering with each other."

for this trimester's FA project, the lecturers gave us a few dialogues and we have create a short animation using the dialogues that we have chosen. this is a 2d animatics of what will be a 3d short animation... and owh.. the title of this short animation is.....(wait for it)..... "DATE" *laughs*

I also like to thanks Ajwad for helping me visualing the camera angles, the placement of characters... couldn't have done without you dude...
